What are the PublicChinese language levels?

(Level 1) Pre-Beginner
Level I is designed for beginners. As you learn, you will find it is an excellent way to master the basics: Basic phonetics of Mandarin Chinese and reading Chinese characters.

(Level 2) Elementary
You can use and recognize only common words, greetings and expressions. completing this level you should be able to communicate with native speakers in more social setting.

(Level 3) Intermediate
Read and write fluently about familiar topics and
talk easily with a limited range of style and expression.

(Level 4) Advanced
Good comprehension of most non-specialized texts, high level of grammatical competence. Can express and support points of view with confidence.

(Level 5) Up advanced
Excellent command of vocabulary and all functional language. Able to read most types of texts and write accurately.
 
What does my placement test score mean?
The placement test determines your Chinese language level. It is based on our general Chinese curriculum. At the end of the test, you are presented with a suggested GlobalChinese starting level.
 
How can I enroll in a course?
To begin your course: -Go to the learning center home page. -If you haven’t already chosen a course, choose your course now. -If you have already chosen your course, click on the first activity in your course Choose a lesson and begin studying!
 
Why can’t I move into the next unit?
You must receive a passing grade of at least 60% on all lessons in order to move on to the next unit. You must also complete the final evaluation, once you have passed the final test. You can see your grades in your progress report. If you are missing a Discussion grade, please contact your customer service representative.
 
How long is a course?
A Basic Chinese course usually takes 30 - 40 hours to complete. A Business Chinese course usually takes 40 - 60 hours to complete. The best thing about GlobalChinese is that you have unlimited access to your course. You work at your own pace to complete your courses! The GlobalChinese Program lasts for as long as you want!
 
How can I change my course?
To change your course or level, click on "Change Course" in the your course page.

You can choose your next course from our large selection of offerings.

 
What is in the progress report?
You can view your progress report from your course page.
The results of the tests and exercises that you completed in your previous course(s) are recorded in your progress report, which you will have continual access to.
You will be able to return to the progress report for each completed course to view your ongoing progress.
